Summa’s Bariatric Care Center offers a variety of options for weight loss surgery:

Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass

Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass is the most successful and most frequently performed weight loss procedure to manage obesity. As part of gastric bypass surgery, a small stomach ‘pouch’ is created with staples, and a portion of the small intestine is bypassed and re-attached to the stomach in a different way. This remainder of the stomach continues to produce digestive enzymes, which aid in digestion after they reach the food farther down in the gastrointestinal tract. As a result, you eat less food and absorb less of the food that you do eat. This procedure creates a faster feeling of fullness and allows for less absorption of calories from food.

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that involves dividing the stomach into two separate parts. The portion of the stomach through which food passes is shaped like a tube, or a sleeve. This results in the stomach no longer being able to hold a large portion of food, therefore patients eat less while feeling full. Food digestion occurs through the normal process, so nutrients and vitamins from food can be fully absorbed into the body.

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding

The procedure is sometimes preferred as an option for patients choosing weight loss surgery because it is adjustable and does not require a complete bypass of the stomach. Your surgeon manages the rate of your weight loss by adjusting the band post-surgery to allow more or less food to pass through. There is no permanent change to your anatomy, and food digestion occurs through the normal process, so nutrients and vitamins from food can be fully absorbed into the body.

Laparoscopic Revisional Surgery

Laparoscopic Revisional Surgery is available to patients who have already undergone a primary weight loss surgery procedure. These procedures are for generally designed for patients who have experienced complications from their initial surgery.
