It’s difficult to keep up with life when pain in your knees and hip slows you down. Crystal Clinic Orthopedic Center joint specialists can help relieve your pain and return you to an active life. The sooner your pain is treated before joints stiffen or weaken, the better your recovery will be.

Read what our patients have to say about how Crystal Clinic has helped them improve their quality of life and allowed them to return to personal freedom.

Gerry Faust

When Coach Gerry Faust quarterbacked in college, a blind side hit injured his left knee. "They had to carry me off the field," he said, "but I was too busy to get it fixed properly until I retired."

Gerry had a knee replacement but chose to rehab it himself. Nine years later he was in so much pain, he went to the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center for a knee revision, followed by therapy at Summa. "I found out that if you go to the right place and do what they tell you, you’ll be fine. Without either place, I don’t think I’d be playing golf or running or riding bikes at the age of 77."

Alice Strickler

Knee pain was preventing Alice Strickler from taking part in the activities that she enjoyed – tennis, golf, biking, walking. Even driving a car had become difficult.

Alice turned to Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center where she met Dr. Thomas Bear. At the time, Dr. Bear said, “Prolong quality of life to prolong your life.” Alice never forgot that remark, especially as her knees were affecting her quality of life.

She returned to Dr. Bear for knee replacement surgery. After rehabbing and physical therapy, Alice is back to enjoying her favorite hobbies without worry of knee pain.

Ted Conlin

Ted Conlin was an avid golfer, loved snowmobiling, sailing, diving and skiing with his wife and daughter when he started suffering from pain in his hips and legs. The pain and stiffness in his hips and knees made putting on his socks and shoes each morning a 30-minute task.

In September 2005, during his first appointment with Dr. Kepley, Conlin discovered that it was osteoarthritis that was causing his pain. He was also shocked to learn that he needed a total hip replacement — at age 52.

Conlin had replacement surgery on his right hip just before Christmas in 2005 and again, on his left hip, in October 2008. Conlin was amazed at how soon he was back on his feet. His 30-minute task each morning became a quick and painless morning routine once again. Conlin was thrilled at how quickly he was back on the golf course following both of his hip surgeries.

Judy Salmond

Judy Salmond’s pain and loss of mobility were so great she could no longer turn over in bed. An avid gardener, lover of dance, and grandmother of two, Judy found it increasingly difficult to perform even the simplest of tasks.

Judy contacted Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center where Dr. Robert Kepley could see what Judy couldn’t—a return to her normal life. When conservative measures such as medication and injections no longer provided relief, he recommended total hip and knee replacements, which got Judy moving again.

Judy is once again able to watch and take part in her grandchildren’s activities.
