What is Diversity?
Diversity is generally thought to be cultural or racial, when in fact it is much more complex . Diversity and Inclusion at Summa Health System is built around a definition of diversity which states: “Diversity is the sum of individual, personal and organizational dimensions that we share in common and those that make us different and unique” (Gardenswartz and Rowe). Those dimensions include not only the physical such as age, race, gender, sexual orientation and values such as beliefs, spirituality, culture, religion and practices; but also dimensions characterized as relational, occupational, societal and cognitive.
