Major preventive medicine recommendations for men

  • Colorectal cancer screening beginning at age 50 (age 45 for African-American men)
  • Screening for type 2 diabetes for individuals with high blood pressure or cholesterol
  • Abdominal ultrasound to assess for aortic aneurysm at age 65 years or older in men who have smoked cigarettes
  • CT lung screening in certain smoking patients (men age 55 to 74 who smoked one pack a day for 30 years or two packs a day for 15 years)
  • Annual influenza vaccine
  • Pneumococcal vaccine in smokers age 65 and older, or patients age 19 to 64 with any of the following: asthma, diabetes, alcoholism, lung, heart or liver disease
