Akron-Based Health Plan Also Grows Existing Commercial Network

Akron, Ohio, Dec. 20, 2007 – SummaCare, Inc. has completed an agreement to add University Hospitals to its network of providers for its line of Commercial products. Effective Jan. 1, the agreement will provide SummaCare Commercial members with services at 13 University Hospitals’ facilities throughout Northeast Ohio and access to more than 1,000 physicians.
Also effective Jan. 1, SummaCare has finalized contracts to grow its existing Commercial network of providers in Lorain County with Community Regional Medical Center and Allen Community Hospital, in Mahoning County with Northside Medical Center and in Trumbull County with Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
“The addition of these organizations to our network of providers is significant because it means greater access to care for our members,” said SummaCare President Marty Hauser. “When coupled with our already existing comprehensive provider network, our members will have peace of mind knowing that their healthcare needs will be covered and that they will continue to receive treatment from the very best caregivers in Northeast Ohio.”
These new additions to the SummaCare Commercial provider network will add, in total, three healthcare organizations, 18 separate healthcare facilities and 1,300 physicians to its Commercial provider network.
Earlier this year, SummaCare was ranked the highest rated Commercial plan in Ohio by U.S. News & World Report/NCQA. In November it was the only Ohio organization recognized by Health Industries Research Company as a “Health Plan with the most Effective Disease Management Programs for Asthma, Heart Failure and Diabetes.”
In addition to the expansion of its Commercial provider network, SummaCare added six healthcare organizations, more than 20 separate healthcare facilities and more than 1,500 physicians to its Medicare Advantage network of providers in 2007.
