Akron, Ohio, Jan. 31, 2008 – Summa Health System’s Kyle Allen, D.O., AGSF, has been appointed to the National Council on Aging (NCOA) Leadership Council. The National Council on Aging works to improve the lives of older Americans. NCOA programs help older people remain healthy and independent, find jobs, access benefits programs, and discover meaningful ways to continue contributing to society.
Appointment to the Council gives members the opportunity to influence not only the mission and strategy of NCOA but the direction of aging policy and services throughout the nation. Council members are leaders and experts from the fields of aging, nonprofit leadership, academia, and the private sector.
Dr. Allen was nominated and selected by the NCOA’s Board of Directors.
“Every day, 10,000 baby boomers turn 50, and hospitals, physicians and other community organizations need to be prepared to care for the growing senior population,” said Dr. Allen. “I look forward to working with other leaders who are passionate about ensuring that Americans have the best opportunities to remain healthy and productive as they age.”
Dr. Allen serves as chief of the division of geriatric medicine and medical director of post-acute and senior services at Summa Health System. In addition to his role on the NCOA Leadership Council, Dr. Allen is a Practice Change Fellow, a program sponsored by Atlantic Philanthropies and the John A. Hartford Foundation that works to develop leaders who can effectively promote high quality care for people as they age. Additionally, in 2007, Dr. Allen was named the Physician of the Year by the Ohio Association of Gerontology and Education.
Dr. Allen resides with his wife and family in Cuyahoga Falls.
