Summa Health System Recognized by NorthCoast 99 as
One of the Best Workplaces in Northeast Ohio

Akron, Ohio, Sept. 9, 2008 – Summa Health System has been recognized by NorthCoast 99 for the fifth consecutive year as one of the best workplaces in Northeast Ohio.  Summa also was named as a finalist in the Compensation and Benefits Special Award category.

NorthCoast 99 is an annual recognition program that honors 99 great workplaces for top talent in Northeast Ohio. The program specifically examines policies and practices that address Seven Fundamental Workplace Characteristics: Flexibility, Opportunity, Recognition, Development, Security, Support and Talent Integrity.

“We are very proud to be a NorthCoast 99 organization for the fifth year in a row,” said Kyle Klawitter, system vice president of human resources at Summa Health System.  “Our employees are our most important asset and we’re constantly developing unique initiatives to attract, retain and motivate our employees to help them reach their full professional and personal potential.”

Named as one of the top three finalists in the Compensation and Benefits Special Award category, Summa focuses on total compensation and total rewards. Every benefit-eligible employee participates in an incentive program and is eligible for a payment depending on several outcomes. The plans are based on various financial and patient satisfaction measures that focus employees on reaching important goals, while at the same time recognizing and rewarding their efforts and accomplishments.

“In addition to our specialized and traditional approaches to total compensation, we also develop programs to give managers the ability to recognize their staff for reaching or exceeding specific departmental goals and objectives,” said Tony Fragge, director of reward and human resource systems for Summa Health System.  “Summa’s Compensation Team works closely with managers to develop competitive pay programs to reinforce employees’ focus on meeting both professional and organizational goals.”
