The Sister Ignatia Heritage Center in the St. Thomas Hospital Chapel is dear to all of us at Summa Health System because it represents all that we believe in as healthcare providers dedicated to helping others.  Sister Ignatia and Dr. Bob Smith, were two outstanding models from whom we have been influenced.  Through their compassion, the treatment of alcoholism in hospitals was transformed throughout the world and St. Thomas Hospital became the first hospital in the country to have a ward dedicated to treating alcoholism.

The Sister Ignatia Heritage Center preserves the memory and significance of Sister Ignatia and Dr. Bob’s work.
