Prevention & Screening - Prevention Tips

Prevention Tips

Although family history is a key factor in the likelihood of a person developing cancer, lifestyle choices also play a significant role. Certain lifestyle changes can help reduce your risk of developing cancer.

  • Eat five or more servings of a variety of fruits and vegetables daily
  • Choose whole grains over processed
  • Limit consumption of red meat
  • Limit alcohol consumption
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Add a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity daily
  • Avoid tobacco products
  • Limit sun exposure
  • Get recommended cancer screenings

Early detection saves lives. Getting regular check ups, recognizing signs and symptoms, performing self exams and following the American Cancer Society's recommended screening guidelines can help identify cancer at its earliest and most treatable stages.
