Have a heart-healthy month
Posted 4 February 2014 by Dr. von Gruenigen
When you think of February, you may think of Valentine's Day. Yet, when I think of February, I think of women's hearts…oh yes, and my husband, too.
Now that you're smiling, I need to remind you that February is designated as National Heart Month. We have invited some extra special bloggers this month to help us learn how to improve the heart health of the women in our community.
Let's kick the month off by wearing red to school, work or play on National Wear Red Day which is this February …the 7th. Last year I wore thigh-high red boots!
There are three factual mantras you can repeat to yourself this month:
- Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women.
- You need to be normal weight.
- Lead a healthy lifestyle.
- Move, move, move
- Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
Alright, 3.2 facts —- call it a writer's prerogative.
I'm looking forward to speaking this month on heart health to the women of Summa Health System, the Women's Board, and The Circle.
Curious what red item I'll be wearing this year? Why not respond to this post with your guess.
BTW, don't worry about my husband. I'll get him a valentine treat — his favorite are the marshmallow heart Peeps!
