What is delirium?
Delirium is sudden, severe confusion and rapid changes in brain function that is most often caused by physical or mental illness and is usually temporary and reversible. Causes include drug abuse, specific infections and illnesses in those with brain injuries from stroke or dementia, poisons, and fluid or electrolyte disturbances
What are the symptoms?
Symptoms typically include changes in alertness, sensation and perception, level of awareness, disorientation, loss in short-term memory and recall, changes in sleep patterns, disorganized thinking, incoherent speech, amnesia, wandering attention, personality changes, anger, and irritability.
