Cognitive Processing Group Therapy (CPT) for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
What is Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)?
CPT is a group therapy that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of trauma-related difficulties. Treatment includes:
- Education about common reactions to trauma
- Writing about the personal meaning of trauma
- Writing a detailed account of the trauma
- Learning to identify, challenge and change beliefs about the meaning of trauma and the implications of the trauma for your life
CPT has been evaluated in numerous rigorous research studies and is known to be very effective and to have long term benefits. The skills learned in CPT can be easily applied to other problems you may have.
Why group therapy?
Group therapy provides an opportunity to realize that you are not alone - that there are other people who have the same problems - and to share and learn from each other in a confidential environment. To join the group, you will need a referral from your doctor and attend an initial assessment at the CTSTS.
