Commission on Cancer Accreditation

Cancer services at Summa Akron City Hospital and Summa Barberton Hospital are accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC).

Approval by the CoC is given only to facilities willing to undergo a rigorous evaluation process and performance review. In order to maintain this status, facilities with approved cancer programs must submit to an on-site review every three years.

Cancer Services at Summa Akron City Hospital are accredited with commendation in the following areas:

  • Abstracting timeliness
  • Clinical trial accrual
  • Quality of NCDB data submission
  • Patient guidelines
  • Prevention and early detection
  • Cancer registry staff education
  • Cancer-related improvements

National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)

The Parkview Center at Summa Barberton Hospital was the first in the area to become a nationally accredited breast cancer program. In fact, the center is one of just ten in Ohio accredited by the NAPBC, assuring you the nation’s highest level of quality breast care.
