Heart Rhythm Services
Summa Cardiovascular Institute’s (SCVI) Heart Rhythm Services investigate electrical issues within the heart, including abnormally slow, fast or irregular heartbeats. When you or your family member have been diagnosed with an arrhythmia or abnormal heart rhythm disorder, it can be a scary time. You will be in good hands with the specialists at SCVI. We can help you understand your options and plot the best course of treatment for your specific case.

We have many tools to diagnose your condition and determine the best course of treatment. These tools include: Stress Tests, Electrocardiograms, Electrophysiology Studies and Holter Monitors.

Even though pacemakers and implantable defibrillators are very reliable, it is still important for patients to have their devices checked periodically by qualified technicians or monitored at home via telephone transmission.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest
During a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) the heart ceases to function suddenly and without warning. This is related to an electrical problem in the heart, where the arrhythmia prevents the heart from pumping blood to the brain, heart and other vital organs.
When a patient has a Sudden Cardiac Arrest, CPR and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator is necessary for survival.
As with a heart attack, the treatment for SCA needs to happen as soon as possible. At Summa, our team understands the importance of time. We manage resources and services effectively so you can receive treatment quickly and efficiently. Whether you’re in a rural or urban setting shouldn’t make a difference in healthcare – it’s more about the commitment of the people who deliver it.
We have facilities near you to provide emergency services:
After Sudden Cardiac Arrest, an implanted device is often required. We have a team of specialists to provide the care you need.
Summa Cardiovascular Institute offers a Device Clinic that monitors all patients who have an implantable device. SCI Device Clinics are available at convenient locations across the region, including Summa Akron City, Summa Barberton and Western Reserve Hospitals. Your cardiologist can learn valuable information about how your heart and the device are working – and can make adjustments if necessary.
