Board-Certified Cardiac Care in Akron

Summa’s board-certified cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons repair and redirect diseased blood vessels, as well as provide surgical treatment for conditions affecting the throat, lungs and esophagus. Our surgical team is expertly skilled in minimally invasive (endovascular) surgical techniques as well as traditional surgical techniques for conditions that are not treatable using less invasive strategies.

Some of these techniques include: angioplasty, stenting, endovascular stent grafting and atherectomy. Endovascular stent grafting is a minimally invasive surgical technique where a stent graft is placed inside an aneurysm without opening the tissue surrounding it. A stent graft is a fabric tube supported by a metal framework. Atherectomy is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to remove plaque from arteries.

Summa’s board-certified cardiothoracic surgeons use a team approach when repairing heart conditions due to blockages in the arteries (coronary artery disease – CAD) or heart attacks, as well as valvular heart defects and congenital abnormalities (present from birth). Some of the surgeries performed include coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), valve repair or replacement as well as surgery of the great vessels.
