Pulmonary Rehabilitation for Respiratory Conditions
One out of six Americans will suffer from a serious lung disease at some time in their lives. Of those afflicted, many people don't realize that there are ways to overcome breathing problems, decrease the fear that accompanies these problems and increase the quality of their lives. Treatment and therapy can help many breath easier again. A pulmonary rehabilitation program is offered by Summa Health System to do just that - help you or a loved one breathe easier.
Summa's pulmonary rehab program is located on the Summa Akron City Hospital Campus, 95 Arch Street, Suite G25, Akron, OH. Free parking is available in the lot behind the building.

Summa's pulmonary rehab program was launched in 1987 to treat those with chronic lung diseases like emphysema, chronic bronchitis and asthma. It consists of three main components:
- relaxation techniques (to help ward off panic that ensues when a person experiences extreme shortness of breath)
- an exercise regimen
Patients who are enrolled in the program work closely with a team of pulmonary rehab specialists, under the medical direction of a board-certified pulmonologist. A patient's progress is monitored daily, and reports are shared with both the patient and his other physicians throughout the duration of the program.
