Maternity Services - Briana Kirt
When Briana Kirt, M.D. was expecting her first baby, she first planned to deliver at a large hospital. But as her pregnancy progressed, she began to have doubts. As she considered her options, Dr. Kirt decided that she would rather deliver at a hospital that was familiar and where she would be most comfortable. Summa Barberton Hospital, where she works as a family practice intern, was the obvious choice. Knowing the excellent reputation of the staff physicians and anesthesiologists, she changed to an obstetrician on the Summa Barberton Hospital staff.
When the time came for baby Nora to arrive, Dr. Kirt had just finished a 30-hour stretch on call. She was very pleased that everyone was ready for her when she arrived at the hospital. During labor, nurses checked on her progress and offered anything she needed.
“I really liked having a private LDRP room. It meant that I could labor, deliver and recover and remain in the same room during my hospital stay without having to move between different rooms,” exclaims Dr. Kirt. “The staff gave me lots of attention and help during my labor. I also liked ordering food from room service when it was convenient for me to eat.”
Dr. Kirt also appreciated having consultations with Candy, the certified lactation consultant. She found it very comforting to continue her consultations even after she was discharged. She and Nora are now enjoying their special closeness and all the advantages breastfeeding provides.
