Pelvic Pain - Elaine Stoeberman

Elaine Stoeberman is no stranger to adversity. She is one of the 20 percent of U.S. women who silently suffer the effects of chronic pelvic pain.

“I was about 16 years old when I first experienced problems,” Elaine recalled. “It got to the point mentally where I thought
that I was just imagining these pains.”

Elaine’s family physician referred her to Summa’s Pelvic Pain Specialty Center. She was diagnosed with endometriosis, interstitial cystitis and irritable bowel syndrome. Bradford Fenton, MD, PhD, FACOG, Medical Director of the Pelvic Pain Center, performed a bladder distention at Akron City Hospital. He also prescribed a hormone treatment called Lupron that is injected every three months to reduce estrogen levels and cause menopause-like side effects. Two days after her first injection, she was pain-free for the first time in 11 years.

“Dr. Fenton has been a god send to me. For years I struggled with this pain. It is such a relief to know what you are feeling has a name, and there are possible treatments for it.”

Today, Elaine is active, working two jobs, exercising and spending time with her boyfriend, DeAndre. “It is amazing to be pain-free…I have my life back.”
