The Department of Pharmacy Services at Akron City Hospital, St. Thomas Hospital, Summa Barberton Hospital and Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital are consistent with the mission of Summa Health System, places a priority on providing the highest quality, compassionate care to our patients and contributing to a healthier community.
Clinical services provided by the Department include renal drug monitoring, drug interaction monitoring, patient care rounding, medication teaching, therapeutic drug monitoring, drug order review, drug information support for care providers and a focus on an integrated, decentralized model for care delivery.
The Pharmacy Department at Summa Akron City Hospital, St. Thomas Hospital, Summa Barberton Hospital and Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital is a 24-hour operation responsible for dispensing medications daily for an average inpatient population of 450 patients with additional services provided in the outpatient setting. The Department consists of pharmacists, certified pharmacy technicians and support personnel, working together to assure patients receive the highest quality pharmaceutical care possible.
Specialty areas serviced by the department include Psychiatry, Acute Care for Elders, Neurology, Critical Care, Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Hospice, Pain and Palliative Care, Internal Medicine, Anticoagulation, Emergency Department, Ambulatory Care, Oncology, and Investigational Drug Services.
Clinical and distributive support is currently provided by: GE Centricity, Eclipsys, Pyxis MedStations, Micromedex, Clinical Pharmacology, and a complete medical library.
The Department serves as an experiential teaching site and internship site for all Ohio colleges of pharmacy as well as other schools. A PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY2 Pain Management and Palliative Care Pharmacy Residency is also offered.
