AKRON, Ohio, Oct. 10, 2012 – The South Summit Chamber of Commerce recently honored Summa Barberton Hospital with its “Outstanding Business of the Year” award. This award recognizes businesses with 50 employees or more that have shown constant growth and support of the South Summit Chamber of Commerce.
Summa Barberton Hospital was nominated by other organizations and chamber members in the Barberton area for its past and continued growth. A committee reviewed all nomination forms, including an explanation of how the business provides assistance to the community.
Since becoming a full member of Summa Health System in 2007, Summa Barberton Hospital, made up of approximately 1,000 employees, has continued to grow and expand. Most recently, the hospital embarked on a $17.3 million emergency department, cafeteria and conference center expansion project. In addition, Parkview Center recently went through its re-accreditation survey and received Approval with Commendation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer – an honor only 10 percent of the cancer centers in the U.S. receive. The hospital has been around for over 97 years.
Tom DeBord, president of Summa Barberton and Summa Wadsworth-Rittman Hospitals, accepted the award on the hospital’s behalf during a recent luncheon honoring members’ top businesses and community leaders.
“This award is a testament to the quality and commitment of our doctors, staff and volunteers and their dedication to provide the highest quality, compassionate care to our patients,” DeBord said. “We are looking forward to the future of Summa Barberton Hospital and what we will contribute to our community.”
