AKRON, Ohio, Oct. 28, 2011– Summa Health System is pleased to announce the appointment of Gus Kious, M.D. to president of Summa Physicians Inc. (SPI). He begins his new role on Oct. 31, 2011.
Dr. Kious joins SPI from Huron Hospital, a Cleveland Clinic Hospital, in East Cleveland where he served as president for the past seven years. Prior to that, he held several leadership positions at the Cleveland Clinic including senior medical director of the Cleveland Clinic Health System Physician Organization. As the head of SPI, Dr. Kious will be responsible for the organization’s strategic management, operations and recruitment.
“I am very excited to join the Summa leadership team as the president of SPI,” said Dr. Kious, a board-certified family practice physician. “My experience with quality, case and disease management; diagnostic and therapeutic services; hospital management; leadership and management development; and group practice coordination will be valuable assets to what we are trying to accomplish at Summa.”
Throughout his career, Dr. Kious has focused on developing high-performance organizations, and he teaches several leadership courses and is writing a handbook for mid-level managers. He earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where he is currently an assistant clinical professor.
