AKRON, Ohio, Sept. 12, 2012Summa Health System has been named one of 99 best places to work in Northeast Ohio for nine consecutive years by the Employers Resource Council (ERC). This year, Summa also received a Special Category Award for Social Responsibility.

The NorthCoast 99 awards honor 99 great workplaces for top talent in Northeast Ohio. The program specifically examines policies and practices that address seven fundamental workplace characteristics: staffing and selection, development and training, compensation, benefits and rewards, organizational culture, organizational innovation, and performance.

“We are extremely proud to be recognized for nine consecutive years as a NorthCoast 99 winner,” said Kyle Klawitter, system vice president of human resources at Summa Health System.  “This recognition provides expert validation that our workplace programs are progressive and aimed at recruiting and retaining a top workforce like we have here at Summa Health System. Year after year, we work hard to ensure Summa employees are provided with workplace programs that are flexible, competitive, and encourage growth and professional development.”

Summa’s recognition as a socially responsible organization stemmed from a number of projects, including the recently opened Summa Center for Health Equity in West Akron, which provides the community with primary care services, health education and public health solutions through evidence-based protocols and community partnerships.

“Corporate citizenship and social responsibility are integrated into the culture of Summa Health System and core values of the organization,” said Roxia Boykin, RN, vice president of community benefit and diversity for Summa Foundation. “Our employees are encouraged and provided through our Employee Volunteer Program with numerous varied opportunities to be of service in our communities. It is an honor for Summa Health System, and our proud, committed employees to receive this award and recognition.”

Robinson Memorial Hospital, an affiliate of Summa Health System, also earned the award for the 10th year in a row making it a Legacy Award Winner. All winners will be recognized by ERC at a special event held on Sept. 19 in Westlake, Ohio.

Since 1999, hundreds of organizations have been nominated and applied for the NorthCoast 99 award, and the program has recognized nearly 400 organizations for their ability to maintain great workplaces that support the attraction, retention, and motivation of top performers. The program was developed and is presented by ERC. ERC is one of Ohio’s leading organizations dedicated to HR consulting, workplace programs, job training, and health insurance.
