AKRON, Ohio, Aug. 14, 2013 – It’s a “Celebration” for guests of Summa Foundation’s 12th annual Sapphire Ball who are invited to dance the night away Saturday, Sept. 21, during a live performance by Kool & the Gang, the Grammy Award winning band whose funk hits also include “Ladies Night,” and “Get Down On It.” Guests at the elegant black-tie fundraiser will also enjoy a beautiful evening of cocktails and gourmet dining.
This year, proceeds will benefit the Summa Center for Health Equity, which empowers people to make lasting improvements to their health through chronic disease management, nutrition, exercise and healthy lifestyle education services.
“We are so very excited to invite the community to an evening of spectacular entertainment and cuisine combined with our guest’s generous support of programs that will forever positively change the delivery of healthcare,” said Lori Krohn who is co-chairing this year’s Sapphire Ball with her husband, Mark Krohn. “We’re promising lasting memories at this year’s ball and a party that can truly change the world. Who could ask to be a part of anything better than that?”
The Summa Center for Health Equity opened in West Akron in 2012 to provide the community with primary care services, health education and public health solutions through evidence-based protocols and community partnerships. The health center is the anchor commercial tenant in the Village at New Seasons, which opened in April 2011 across the street from The House of the Lord.
“Every day, we are helping people reclaim their health and their lives through a new approach to healthcare,” said E. Demond Scott, M.D., executive director of the center. “Through an integrated program that includes not only medical but dietary, lifestyle and fitness components, our patients are having fewer health emergencies, improving chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, and staying well much longer.”
