March 3, 2014 – Eat more fiber. Eat less red meat. Don’t smoke. Do lose weight. Drink more water. Drink less alcohol. Take a walk. Take a walk inside a colon
Believe it or not, these are all ways to improve your colon health and reduce your risk of developing colorectal cancer. Even walking “inside” a colon is now possible thanks to Summa Health System’s “Strollin’ Colon” event happening Friday, March 7, at Summa Akron City Hospital’s Ann and David Brennan Critical Care Lobby. This free awareness event is being held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is one of a series of events that Summa has planned for colorectal cancer awareness during the month of March.
Attendees of the March 7 event will be able to walk through a 12-foot long, giant inflatable “colon,” while learning valuable tips on how to lower their risk of colorectal cancer. A colorectal cancer nurse navigator will be on hand to answer questions, and the event will include the opportunity to make screening appointments on the spot. In addition, there will be refreshments, a raffle and various giveaways.
