AKRON, Ohio, July 15, 2014 – Summa Health System has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top-performing hospitals in the specialties of endocrinology (diabetes care) and gastroenterology. Of the nearly 5,000 hospitals across the country evaluated for these high honors, just 144 received national rankings in this, the 25th year that U.S. News has provided the report. Notably, Summa was also ranked as the sixth best hospital in Ohio out of the 225 hospitals reviewed by U.S. News.
“Summa Health System is extremely proud of the rankings we have achieved in this year’s U.S. News report,” said Tom Strauss, president and CEO of Summa Health System. “I am particularly pleased with our outstanding performance in Ohio, which is a testament to all of our dedicated and highly skilled medical teams. And to be ranked again nationally in two specialties is an honor. I commend all who work in our Endocrinology and Gastroenterology departments and thank them for their great service to our patients.”
Rankings are determined by U.S. News following an examination of hospitals that take on and excel at treating difficult procedures and conditions and utilize the latest in technology. The publication evaluates hospitals in 16 adult specialties. The complete list of Best Hospitals will appear in the U.S. News “Best Hospitals 2015” Guidebook, which will be available on newsstands in August. Rankings also may be viewed at www.usnews.com/besthospitals.
