The missions of the Division of Surgical Education and Research are to:

    1. Engage and support the attending and resident surgeons affiliated with Summa Health System in the conduct of research projects and other scholarly activities that will ultimately benefit the care of surgical patients.
    2. Build and orchestrate a surgical educational curriculum and structure that supports the development of clinical quality for trainees and the advancement of clinical quality for the attending faculty; and
    3. Conduct a focused research program of the highest possible quality that is of national acclaim and supports the strategic priorities of Summa Health System.

Although the mission is presented as three separate statements for clarity, there is operationally significant overlap and synergy among the goals of each aspect of the mission, which creates a unified program of surgical education and research.
