Michelle Evancho-Chapman, BS

Michelle has over 20 years experience writing and conducting pre-clinical medical device and pharmacology protocols and grants. As a study coordinator and research surgeon, she has conducted studies in the areas of wound healing, vascular surgery, microsurgery, laparoscopic and general surgery. She has published over 15 articles, presented at national and international meetings and has conducted pre-clinical studies in compliance with FDA and GLP guidelines. As the manager of the Preclinical Research and Skills Training, Michelle oversees the facility in compliance with both USDA and AAALAC regulations and serves as the IACUC coordinator. Michelle also coordinates the ASRU’s training and education program which provides surgical training opportunities for physicians, residents and medical device companies.

Rachelle Scharsu, BSN

Rachelle has over 9 years of clinical research experience in surgical, gastroenterology, pathology, and genomic research. She also has extensive experience in cancer tumor tissue collection. Her expertise includes critical care nursing, protocol development and implementation, and document development for nationally compliant research protocols. She is certified in the transportation of dangerous goods and is a member of SOCRA. She works with physicians and residents in the Department of Surgery to facilitate research protocol development and IRB submissions.

Linda DiPersio, BS, MS

Linda has 35 years of research experience, and currently manages the cell culture and molecular biology research laboratories within the Division of Surgical Education & Research. Her work includes molecular microbiology as well as cell culture, and she teaches graduate and medical students basic laboratory methods in these areas. Linda's research interest is in the emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance genes in pathogenic bacterial species.

Tristan Ula, BS

Tristan holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Bowling Green State University and has experience in Animal husbandry and Laboratory management from the U.S. Navy Marine Mammal Program as well as the Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory. She has been with the Division of Surgical Research and Education since August, 2008. Tristan is responsible for the daily activities of the Preclinical Research and Skills Training, including animal care and husbandry, and set up and support of physician/resident education labs and research protocols. Tristan is responsible for maintaining the facility and conducting animal lab activities in accordance with USDA, AAALAC and Summa Health System’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) guidelines. Tristan is a member of the American Assoc. of Laboratory Animal Science as well as the Registered Lab Animal Technician (RLAT) through AALAS.

Donna provides administrative and secretarial support to the staff in the Division of Surgical Education and Research and in the Preclinical Research and Skills Training. Donna also coordinates the activities of all Division investigators (residents, attendings, consortium) by independently organizing, coordinating and performing various administrative and secretarial responsibilities. Donna is proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Outlook and Internet knowledge.
