Summa’s Institute for Seniors and Post Acute Care is nationally-acclaimed for its model of care for seniors at every level of care. The Institute offers an integrated approach that enhances quality of care and access to services allowing older adults to remain independent as long as possible.
Summa’s Clinical Trials and Research will ultimately improve and transform the way patients all over the world receive care. Summa invests nearly $10 million annually in overall research support for many areas, including cardiology, cancer and geriatrics. Major research programs are supported by grants from institutions such as the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense.
The Summa Center for Diabetes Care, located on Summa’s St. Thomas Hospital Campus, has been approved and recognized for excellence by the American Diabetes Association, the Ohio Community Diabetes Control Program and the Ohio Department of Health. The center's primary function is to provide the tools and education people living with the disease need to gain better control of their blood sugar.
The Trauma Center at Summa Akron City Hospital is verified as a Level I trauma center since 1998 and is also a Certified Chest Pain Center and Certified Stroke Center.
Summa’s Palliative Care Services is comprised of an interdisciplinary team of dedicated medical professionals, including board-certified medical directors with more than 80 years’ experience combined and volunteers who work with patients and their families to create comprehensive, individualized care plans. Our services help to prevent and ease suffering, while enhancing comfort and quality of life.
The Radiation Oncology department at Summa Health System recently earned a three-year accreditation for its radiation therapy services from the American College of Radiology (ACR). Summa is the only cancer care provider in Akron or Canton to receive this accreditation, which places it among a select group of cancer care providers nationwide.
Summa’s Sleep Medicine Center’s physicians, recognized by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, treat thousands of patients each year who experience a wide range of sleep disorders.
Our Summa at Home program provides home healthcare for patients of all ages, whether they are recovering from illness, surgery or injury. The service can be invaluable for patients with chronic severe illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, pneumonia, stroke, and heart failure, or those at an increased risk for falls or medication errors. Available seven days a week, 24 hours a day, our home healthcare professionals provide medical services throughout northeast Ohio including Summit, Cuyahoga, Stark, Portage and Medina counties.
