Summa Health’s Department of Psychology is offering Post-doctoral Psychology Fellowship opportunities in the specializations of Traumatic Stress and Health Psychology. This fellowship is designed as a full-time, one-year program. The selected candidate will be joining a well-established team of 40 clinicians that include psychiatrists, psychologists, advance practice nurses, licensed independent social workers and addiction medicine physicians. The newly built Juve Family Behavioral Health Pavilion on Akron’s Campus encompasses 60 inpatient and outpatient beds.
Traumatic Stress
The TSC Fellowship involves assessments and treatment of trauma. The TSC provides an exciting clinical and research atmosphere. It is a specialty clinic providing outpatient clinical services to a demographically diverse patient population with various types of trauma exposure. We emphasize empirically supported individual and group interventions (e.g., Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy), conduct research to advance the science of traumatic stress, train the current and future workforce on trauma informed best practices, and partner with other hospital clinics/departments (e.g., Inpatient Psychiatry, Primary Care, Women’s Health) and community organizations.
Health Psychology
The goal of the fellowship is to prepare trainees for future practice in clinical health psychology by providing a broad range of clinical experiences in our regional hospital system. This clinically focused training experience consists of direct clinical experience, face-to-face clinical supervision, and didactic training in health psychology specialty areas. Opportunities are available for becoming involved in a research related QI project in collaboration with a medical resident and resulting in a regional conference presentation as well as teaching/training of medical students and residents, and psychology doctoral students.
