Half-Time Consultation Liaison Psychologist – Akron, Ohio
The Summa Health System Behavioral Health Institute is seeking a clinical/counseling psychologist to join our well-established Department of Psychiatry team of 40 clinicians. Our current position is half time providing Consultation Liaison Services in medical units at Summa Health - Akron Campus. The selected candidate will become a member of the Summa Health Medical Group, a multi-specialty group practice of nearly 400 physicians employed by the Summa Health System.
The selected candidate will provide psychological evaluations and consultation services in medical units at Summa Health- Akron Campus as part of our Consultation Liaison Psychiatry/Psychology (CLP) service. Akron Campus is Summa Health System’s flagship hospital campus and treats a full range of inpatient medical issues. Duties include providing bedside patient assessment, diagnostic evaluation, and brief intervention and appropriate referrals for medical inpatients who have been referred by their medical care team. Typical referrals include patients showing signs of anxiety, depression, substance abuse, or some other mental health problem, patients having attempted suicide, having concerns about mental competency, or having difficulty adjusting to their inpatient stay. This position might be asked to supervise pre-doctoral psychology trainees from local universities.
Essential Functions
- Provide evaluation of medical patients and consultation to medical care team
- Provide counseling and support to family members of patients as needed
- Conduct suicide assessments and discharge recommendations (i.e., psychiatric hospitalization versus home)
- Conduct capacity evaluations
- Supervise pre-doctoral psychology trainees
- Effectively work with interdisciplinary treatment teams

Candidate Requirements
- Ph. D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology
- Completed an APA-accredited clinical internship
- Licensed or license eligible in Ohio
