Our Summa Health healthcare team has been vital to our community as they have persevered throughout the lengthy COVID-19 pandemic. They are the doctors, nurses, techs and therapists who ensure the best treatments. They are the transporters, environmental services and nutrition services who contribute to delivering the best experience. They are our EMS partners who respond to every kind of emergency. They are the pharmacists who diligently fill ongoing requests. And, they are the employee volunteers from across our system who have stepped up to lend a hand to our frontline workers, whenever and wherever needed.
These are just some of the many people that make up the heart of our healthcare system. These are our healthcare heroes.
Thank you! I salute you healthcare heroes for the work you have been doing to protect and save the lives of so many people. I have great admiration for you and others like you. Thank you all so much for your efforts through the pandemic. I’m sure it’s not easy to give up everything in order to continue to support people through covid 19 as well as doing research on how to prevent it. I want you to know that although it may not seem like it your work is appreciated and recognized by many. Thank you for everything that you do and for everything that you did.

Hi! I want to say thank you so much for your service and all the hard work that you do. My mom and sister are both nurses so I have a little bit of an idea about how much dedication it really takes to be a nurse. I look up to you and that all that you do, our health system really could not function the way it does without nurses! It really is such a compassionate field to enter that requires so much patience, attention to detail, and commitment. I hope you know that you really are appreciated and again thank you for the job that you do!
- Britney M.
Happy Holidays to all the workers and patients at Summa Health! I feel that a lot of your work goes unnoticed as your careers involve putting others first, which is why I want to pursue a career in medicine because I believe in helping others and my community. I feel that your work should be recognized especially around this time of year when we cannot be around family as much. Again, I really appreciate everything you do and the lives you help save every day. -Lots of love from New Jersey-
- Elisha R.
Thank you for everything you do. You make a significant impact on everyone you come in contact with. Its almost as though you have magic in those fingertips of yours. I made a poem that originally mentioned parents as the subject; however, I think that parents and healthcare workers can be interchangeable in this case. So here it is, revised: Most Practical Magicians Healthcare workers aren’t magical but they definitely incite miracles
- Cassidy C.

I want to commend the wonderful nurses at the Covid vaccine center at Summa. My husband and I both had our second injection at the Akron Campus. I happened to have the same sweet nurse both times. She and everyone there are simply wonderful! They made you feel welcome and provided skilled service as well as educational instruction regarding what to do after the injection. My nurse was so good at the injection, I hardly felt a thing. I am happy to say, other than a sore arm for a day or two, we have not had any ill side effects. It's been over eight hours since our second one today and we feel fine, I am happy to report. Thank you so much for all you do! You all made a potentially fearful experience, because of its novelty, a very positive experience. May God bless all of you!
- Janet M.

The first time I realized that healthcare workers are an extension of angels' arms was when my infant daughter was hospitalized with a heart defect 33 years ago. You're not just performing a job. You see things that cause nightmares. You see things that re-energize your soul and spirit. You see everything in between. You sometimes work without breaks, without eating, without rest, without regard for your own issues. You give everything to do what you do. I APPRECIATE EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THE MEDICAL FIELD. This includes every single person from cleaning staff, to food service, to medical teams - from bottom to top! May God bless you and keep you safe!
- Vickie U.
I remember being 14 and knowing Sue was a “baby nurse” and I thought it was the COOLEST JOB EVER!!!! To say she has been instrumental in my entire nursing career would be a the understatement of the century! As I roll up on 10 years of being a nurse, I look back on Sue congratulating me on going to nursing school, being so proud of me for passing my NCLEX (I still have the text!), praying me through my first horrible nursing job, encouraging me to pursue the job of my dreams, and helping me get into Summa Akron L&D! I could never properly thank Sue for all she has done! She been my personal on call nurse the last couple years, helping me navigate my own health and helping me find a PCP (Dr. Stephanie Zaugg!!!)! Sue is an amazing nurse!!! Summa Health is so lucky to have her!
- Rachel P.
Happy Nurses Week!

We wanted to give a shout out to Stephanie Shope who is a nurse in the ICU. She works tirelessly and has been an exceptionally kind and caring nurse during this pandemic. Since then we have acquired a new puppy, a now 6 month old golden retriever puppy named Bonnie. She has big paws to full but we are hopeful she can follow in Gracie’s footsteps at Summa in a few years: ) - Joanne M and a WAGtime hopeful
Have been sitting on the sidelines at home thru all of your horrific efforts. Cannot put a single face to you just a vision of caring and love. I am so thankful for you and all those things you do which I have no idea about. I hope your private resting time is peaceful knowing that you have given of your soul and continue to do so. We’re all human so forgive yourself any debated shortcomings and not knowing you, I still know your best is good enough. Remember your family , friends and I love you...you are our special blessing.

ER night shift workers need to know they are important. Show them they matter. Show them they are seen. I have no specific plan to do that, but please come up with something creative to keep morale up. Everyone working in the ER is in it for the long haul. Please, show all of them some love!❤️ Thanks!
- Connie K.

A huge thank you to the PPE trainers and Fit testers who've stepped up to the challenge this past month - out of their comfort zone and into the front lines. From initially making rounds to eventually being assigned to COVID units, all to ensure caregivers' maximum safety. They've demonstrated patience and dedication, adapting to continuously evolving guidelines and making sacrifices for the betterment of our staff. They're all true heroes along with Jenn, Amanda, Vickie, Val, and Hanna. I am proud to work with all of you!!
- Jeannie D.
A hero is someone who gives of him/herself, often putting his/her own life at risk for the greater good of others and that’s exactly what the ICU T2 staff do every day. They are the true definition of a hero. A simple "thank you" will never be enough, but I hope it helps in some small way! Thank you, thank you, thank you to T2 staff, all front line workers and essential staff! ❤️
- Gloria G.

I recognized one of the Summa employees shown in the introductory video--Jennifer Saffels😊. She is one of the most compassionate healthcare workers I have ever had the pleasure to know; it figures that she would be among those who are willing to place other's needs above her own. To anyone who still lives in the area serviced by Summa, I can assure you that if you are fortunate to be cared for by Miss Jennifer that you are in deeply caring and knowledgeable hands. My loss--your gain!
- Jean A.

In this scary and uncertain time for our mother's-to-be, I'd like to recognize the Childbirth Education team, Marketing and Media teams for helping create virtual childbirth education classes that allow our parents-to-be the same opportunities of learning while maintaining our safe social distancing. I sat in and observed a virtual class last week that was taught by Holly. It was very well delivered and the participants were actively engaged in questions and participation. It is great to see everyone stepping up the game to make sure we continue to provide the necessary services regardless of the obstacles or challenges. Great job and thank you!
- Jackie T.

Diana exemplifies a what it means to be a healthcare hero!

Scripture states: "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."
The highest expression of love is a self-sacrifice that spares not life itself. During the past several months we have witnessed this act of love over and over again.

I wanted to share that Melody Shea our Front office coordinator/MA in the Wound Clinic, is amazing! We had an elderly patient come in for his weekly appointment and he had shared that he was hungry and had no groceries. She quickly hopped into action, contacted the Barberton Food Bank, and got two boxes of food delivered to the patient here outside the hospital before he got on his scat bus. She also got the number for a resource that would help to coordinate any additional care he may need in his home so I could get it set up. Her compassion for our patients is shown every day and we are lucky to have Melody as part of the Summa Barberton Wound Care Team!
- Joetta S.

My sister was an inpatient at Akron Campus and was discharged on April 1. I want to say THANK YOU to everyone! Special THANKS to H5 - for dealing with me and giving great care. Also, I specially want to thank Bailey Newman in Transportation. Bailey helped me get my sister in the car, which was no easy feat. Normally, she would have needed to go to rehab for therapy, but COVID seems to interrupt normal interventions! I really appreciated Bailey's help. I could not have done it by myself. He deserves a lot of recognition.
