We recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Summa Health System – Akron Campus Family Medicine Residency program, one of the oldest in the country.
Summa Health System – Akron Campus Family Medicine Residency program has a long history of incredible residency directors committed to the health and wellness needs of our community, as well as to the education of our graduates who have gone on to care for patients across the nation – and the world. Please join us in reflecting on the more than 50-year heritage we all share with the amazing people who made it all happen.
And of course, a 50+-year history cannot be summed up in one 10-minute video.
Here is a historical timeline to take you through all the milestones that make up the Summa Health System – Akron Campus Family Medicine Residency program!
We also received special messages from Summa Health System President and CEO Dr. Cliff Deveny and Ohio congressional leaders.

Thank you to U.S. Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown, and Representative Marcia Fudge. It’s an honor for our Family Medicine Residency Program to be acknowledged as a strong contributor to Akron’s and Ohio’s primary care workforce.
We also received three proclamations – from the City of Akron, Summit County and Gov. DeWine at the state level – all declaring November 13, 2020 is Summa Health Family Medicine Residency Program Day!
