Addiction, specifically opioid use disorder, is a significant public health concern both nationally and statewide, with Summit County particularly impacted. Individuals with substance abuse issues have historically encountered a staggering number of seemingly insurmountable obstacles to treatment, many of which are compounded by the fragmentation of service delivery. They are often plagued with a crushing array of negative thoughts and emotions, which may predispose them to anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation. In addition to the negative physical and psychological issues caused by the addiction, individuals in the throes of addiction must contend with overwhelming societal barriers resulting from misunderstanding and stigmatization.
