Men Who Cook

We would like to thank our title sponsor, Saber Healthcare, for their generous support.

Thank you for joining Summa Health and greater Akron’s top amateur male chefs for a delicious culinary competition and savory night of fundraising at the 15th Men Who Cook Cinco de Mayo celebration on Friday, May 5 at Todaro’s Party Center.

This year’s Men Who Cook fundraiser directly benefited Summa Health at Home, a homecare, palliative care and hospice program that gives adult patients of all ages the opportunity to recover from an illness or injury in an environment where they are most comfortable – at home. Our team of healthcare professionals provides medical services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Top amateur male chefs competed for titles, including the “People’s Choice Award,” which were determined by votes among attendees and a panel of women judges who tasted the delectable creations throughout the evening. Congratulations to this year’s winners in the following categories:

  • People’s Choice: Dr. Dale Murphy (peppercorn filet with whiskey sauce)
  • Mix Master: Joel Testa (smokin’ hot bacon-infused bourbon)
  • Best Dessert: Dan Leamon and Herb Kaiser (vanilla bean cheesecake with pecan crust and mango honey topping)
  • Best Theme Dessert: Dr. Ed Ferris and Dr. Tom Mendise (churros with chocolate)
