Medical Weight Loss Program

Summa's Medical Weight Loss Management Program is for those patients who either do not meet all of the criteria necessary to qualify them for surgery, or for those patients who are interested in a "non-surgical" approach to weight loss. This comprehensive weight-loss program focuses on weight reduction and a healthier lifestyle through changes in eating, exercise and behavior.

Assessment & Commitment

All patients entering the medical program begin by undergoing an evaluation by a physician. Following medical clearance, patients may enroll in the 14 week program.

All patients receive an individualized plan for eating, exercise and behavior modification.

Throughout the 14-week program, patients meet with the dietician twice, attend a group education session led by a clinical exercise specialist and meet with the physician two additional times. A specific eating plan, combined with a structured exercise program, provides the patient with the steps needed to begin the journey of weight loss. The program also includes additional follow-up by phone and a one-on-one session with the exercise specialist. The goal of this program is achievement of weight loss through exercise, education and life-long modification of eating habits.

All physician visits are billed to insurance. Co-payments due for physician visit are due at each physician visit. The fee for the 14 week program is $299. All fees are due at the time of enrollment. A 3 month payment plan is available for holders of a valid credit card. Employees of Summa Hospitals are eligible for payroll deduction of the program fee following a down payment of $100.
