The first step in the process is attendance at an informational seminar, followed by a one-on-one initial evaluation with one of our surgeons. Your surgeon determines whether surgical weight loss is an option for you, reviews the surgical options available to you, and helps you decide upon the best procedure for you.
Our surgeons have completed more than 1,000 minimally invasive weight loss surgeries, including:
- Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
- Laparoscopic Adjustable Banding
- Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy
- Laparoscopic Revisional Surgery
Upon completion of the initial evaluation, you are given the opportunity to enroll in our program. Following enrollment:
- You will undergo a series of tests and assessments, all ordered by your surgeon based upon your medical history and the requirements of your insurance company.
- Upon completion of testing, our interdisciplinary team will meet to review all results. Decisions are made
- at that time regarding the need for special instruction or support, and the team’s recommendation is forwarded to the surgeon.
- The final decision about eligibility and readiness for surgery is made by your surgeon.
At Summa, our primary focus is laparoscopic or minimally invasive surgery. In some instances an open procedure may be required, and our program offers that option if needed. The advantages of the minimally invasive approach include decreased incisional pain, a shorter hospital stay and a faster recovery.
