The American Heart Association (AHA)/American Stroke Association has recognized Summa Akron City and St. Thomas Hospitals as Gold Achievement hospitals for successfully implementing a higher standard of care for patients through the Get With The Guidelines®-Heart Failure quality improvement program. AHA recognized the hospitals for following treatment guidelines in certain key measures at least 85% of the time in an effort to improve quality of care and outcomes for patients, and maintaining this performance level for two or more consecutive years.
Get With The Guidelines is a hospital-based quality improvement program created to ensure hospitals consistently care for heart and stroke patients using the most up-to-date guidelines and recommendations. With Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure treatment guidelines, patients are started on aggressive therapies and medications that can help improve patients care and outcomes. Hospitals must follow these measures at a set level for a designated period of time to be eligible for the achievement awards.
