Summa Health Career Pathways

Ambassador Program Application

The goal of the Career Pathways Ambassador Program is to ease the anxiety of new hires at Summa Health by providing a personal connection with an established employee, leading to long-term employee retention. As part of this pilot program, ambassadors will be assigned new hires from a list of pre-identified non-profit community organizations as part of the Summa Health Career Pathways project.

Ambassador Responsibilities:

  • At least one opening communication (phone, email, virtual, etc.) with the new hire prior to their first day at Summa in order to welcome them to the team and answer any questions they may have and be able to point them to the appropriate resources.
  • At least one communication (phone, email, virtual, etc.) with the new hire on or soon after their first day as a “check-in” to provide additional support and guidance.
  • Maintain open and willing lines of communication with the new hire for at least six months after start date in order to provide continued support and guidance (within reason).
  • Additional responsibilities may include, but are not required:
    • Meeting the new employee on or before their first day to give them an informal tour (where to park, where their new department is located, time clocks, where the cafeteria is, employee health, etc.).
    • Eating lunch with the new hire once (you do not have to buy their meal) to establish connection and communication.
    • Connecting the new hire to various community organizations that could help prepare them the new hire for their first day (transportation, clothing, child care, etc.).
    • Maintaining a connection with the new hire beyond the initial six-month timeframe.
    • Mentoring the new hire to advance within Summa as appropriate.
    • Provide some networking opportunities for the new hire
