Medical Lab Technician Program
Most medical laboratory technologists and technicians work in healthcare settings such as hospitals, medical and diagnostic laboratories, and doctor’s offices. Clinical laboratory technicians typically do the following:
- Test and analyze body fluids, such as blood, urine, and tissue samples
- Operate laboratory equipment, such as microscopes and automated cell counters
- Use automated equipment that analyzes multiple samples at the same time
- Record data from medical tests and enter results into a patient’s medical record
- Discuss results and findings of laboratory tests and procedures with physicians
Through the Smart Start Program, individuals have an opportunity to earn a degree with financial support while building a career at Summa Health This allows participants to focus on getting their education while learning about Summa Health and the healthcare industry.
Smart Start at Stark State
- Stark State students are first accepted into the Medical Lab Technician program at Stark State before applying to the Smart Start Program.
- Each program participant agrees to work a few hours each month remotely completing education courses.
- Summa Health subsidizes full-time students in the Smart Start program by paying half of their school tuition or providing $2,000 in living expenses.
- After graduation, Summa Health will link each program participant with a new job in their chosen field to fulfill a two-year work commitment at Summa Health.
