Joseph Zarconi, M.D.

Senior Vice President, Medical Education, Chief Academic Officer

Joseph Zarconi, M.D., is senior vice president for medical education and chief academic officer and directs Summa’s Institute for Professionalism Inquiry which he co-founded. He is professor of internal medicine and associate dean for clinical education for Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED).

He received his M.D. degree as a member of the charter class at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, completed residency and chief residency in internal medicine at Akron City Hospital, and completed a nephrology fellowship at University Hospitals of Cleveland/Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He is a practicing nephrologist and active in teaching medical students and residents.

He has presented at state and national meetings and co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on topics relating to medical education, narrative medical practice, narrative ethics and humanism and professionalism in medicine. He is co-author of two books on narrative in healthcare.

Zarconi is a member of the NEOMED Master Teacher Guild, and is recognized as a master teacher by the American College of Physicians.
