President and Chief Executive Officer
Thomas Malone, M.D., MBA was appointed president and chief executive officer of Summa Health System January, 2015. Since October 2013, Malone's other roles at Summa included president of Summa Akron City and St. Thomas Hospitals and chief operating officer. Prior to joining Summa Health System, Dr. Malone served as president and chief executive officer of Harper University & Hutzel Women’s Hospital. Before serving as president and CEO, he was executive vice president and chief medical officer, at which time he was responsible for graduate medical education, physician contracting, medical informatics and corporate quality and safety.
Throughout his career, he served in a variety of leadership positions including, president and chief executive officer of Children’s Choice of Michigan and president and chief executive officer of Physician Directed Care.
Dr. Malone received his undergraduate degree from John Carroll University and his medical degree from The Ohio State University. He did his residency in pediatrics at Columbus Children’s Hospital and his perinatal-neonatal fellowship at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He also holds a master of business administration from Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana. Dr. Malone is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, the National Board of Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. In addition, he is the recipient of the distinguished teacher award from Methodist Hospital of Indiana.
