Meet Kevin
He was never an overweight child, teenager or young adult. After a few life changes (marriage, kids and a new career) the pounds began to add up. Almost half a lifetime later, Kevin reached his heaviest weight—505 pounds. When an illness landed him in the Emergency Department, the doctors there determined the safest treatment method was a nearly two-week-long induced coma.
“That was my rock bottom moment,” Kevin said. “I knew then that I had to do something about my weight.”
The experts at the Summa Health Weight Management Institute worked directly with Kevin to develop a plan that could help him get back to a healthy weight again. Kevin’s personalized plan included support from both Summa Health Weight Management programs: medical and surgical.
Shortly after his first procedure with Dr. Mark Pozsgay, Kevin was down more than 60 pounds to a weight of 440 pounds. That weight loss made Kevin a better candidate for a second procedure with Dr. Pozsgay that significantly helped his ability to lose weight.

Today, Kevin is down a total of 270 pounds to his current weight of 235 pounds. Now he sees Dr. Kenneth Wells every 2–3 months for ongoing nutritional support. “He is so knowledgeable and friendly. Sometimes I feel like I’m his only patient,” he said.
“They never made me feel ashamed or judged for being so large,” Kevin said. “I only ever felt welcome and well cared for.”
Before Kevin hit rock bottom, he never left the house. Now he goes wherever he wants. He meets with a group of friends each month. He plays with his grandkids. He loves his vacations to North Carolina even more—now he’s living them, rather than just watching them.
