Kathy - My husband and I were very avid scuba divers. We were on a routine dive in Curacao and all of a sudden I had the worst pain in my head I've ever had so I acceded to the surface and that's the last thing I remember for over a month.
I was flown from Curacao to Florida and upon reaching the hospital there, my husband contacted Summa and Dr. Susana Bowling worked with the neurosurgeon there to supervise my care. Once I was stable, I was airlifted to Akron, Ohio to Summa.
I was about as close to death as you could get. It was decided to put a permanent shunt in my brain to drain the fluid. My first memory waking up was my neurosurgeon and he was very surprised because up to this point I'd been very unresponsive. I am so appreciative in heart of hearts to the neuroscience team at Summa for saving my life.
