Summa Health Career Pathways Program
Ambassador Resources

Ambassador Expectations:

  • The recruiter will screen the new hires and assign an ambassador as appropriate.
  • As an ambassador you have the following minimum responsibilities:
    • At least one opening communication (phone, email, virtual, etc.) with the new hire prior to their first day at Summa in order to welcome them to the team and answer any questions they may have and be able to point them to the appropriate resources.
    • At least one communication (phone, email, virtual, etc.) with the new hire on or soon after their first day as a “check-in” to provide additional support and guidance.
    • Maintain open and willing lines of communication with the new hire for at least six months of start date in order to provide continued support and guidance (within reason).

Additional, volunteered responsibilities could include, but are not required:

  • Meeting the new employee on or before their first day to give them an informal tour (where to park, where their new department is located, time clocks, where the cafeteria is, employee health, etc.).
  • Eating lunch with the new hire once (you do not have to buy their meal) to establish connection and communication.
  • Connecting the new hire to various community organizations could help prepare the new hire for their first day (transportation, clothing, child care, etc.).
  • Maintaining a connection with the new hire beyond the initial six-month timeframe.
  • Mentoring the new hire to advance within Summa as appropriate.
  • Provide some networking opportunities for the new hire.

Note: The ambassador will not be assigned until the applicant has been offered and accepted a position within Summa Health. HR will communicate with the ambassador only necessary information about the new hire. Pay, benefits, personal information, etc. will not be shared with ambassadors outside of phone number, email and onboarding schedule, as well as any important issues or concerns the new hire has that the ambassador will need to be made aware of (handicap accommodations, etc.) To become an ambassador, you must agree to at least a six-month commitment, which can be extended at your discretion.

New Hire Expectations:

  • Applicants would be assigned to a Summa Health Ambassador after a new position has been offered and accepted and if the applicant agrees to be part of the Ambassador program.
  • As an applicant you would have the following minimum expectations:
  • Responsive to communication with Ambassador.
  • Respect appropriate boundaries within the Ambassador/employee relationship.
    • Don’t ask for money, personal rides, etc.
    • Reach out to the Ambassador for support, especially if there are issues or concerns with your new job. Our hope is to help resolve issues before they turn into something bigger, leading to lost employment.
  • Build a professional relationship with your Ambassador. They are here to help you succeed.
