Enhancing the Patient Experience at Summa Health

— Akron Campus —

At 343,000 square feet and seven stories high, the Dr. Gary B. and Pamela S. Williams Tower adds a sleek new shape to the Akron panorama and provides a new "front door" for the Akron Campus and its nearly 500,000 visitors every year. The modern external façade signals the internal transformation of Summa Health to a new paradigm for healthcare delivery.

The Williams Tower is home to the Dr. Gary B. and Pamela S. Williams Center for Breast Health, Women's Health Center, childbirth services and state-of-the-art medical/surgical suites. Designed to facilitate coordinated, team-based, patient-centered care and equipped with the most advanced technology, the Williams Tower enhances the patient experience, adding comfort and convenience to every aspect of care.

Thoughtful planning preceded every detail, resulting in:

  • 14 exam rooms for pre-admission testing
  • 108 private inpatient rooms
  • 11 state-of-the-science operating rooms
  • 17 labor and delivery rooms
  • 67 prep and recovery rooms for patients having same-day surgeries
  • A newborn observation room
  • 22-bed neonatal intensive care unit

The Dr. Gary B. and Pamela S. Williams Tower increases the number of private rooms to approximately 80 percent of beds on the Akron Campus, helping to elevate quality of care and patient safety by reducing the risk of infection.

The Williams Tower is the centerpiece of the multimillion dollar transformation in progress at Summa Health — an investment in the health and well-being of our community for the next 125 years.
