2022 Black Men in White Coats Youth Summit Video
In 2022, Summa Health offered a Black Men in White Coats Youth Summit in partnership with Black Men in White Coats. Although the name is different for 2023, the learning objectives remain the same. Students will have plenty of time to engage and learn about medicine and healthcare through hands-on activities.
About the Summit
In partnership with other local health systems, Summa Health recognizes that many patients across the United States, including Greater Akron, face health inequity. These inequities include a lack of access to care and thus suffering worse health outcomes from preventable and manageable conditions.
A well-studied strategy to reduce disparities is diversifying the healthcare workforce to improve the quality of care for all patients. To diversify the workforce, supportive services such as representation, access and mentorship are effective strategies for aspiring students.
The development of the Future Healthcare Leaders’ Summit aligns with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s (ACGME) efforts to motivate, diversify, and engage the next generation of healthcare professionals.
What to Expect
Throughout the Summit, you will network with area physicians, learn more about a career in healthcare and participate in various interactive activities to stimulate your interest in medicine.
Summit Goals
The Future Healthcare Leaders’ Summit aims to:
- Provide a behind-the-scenes look at training as a future physician to reinforce the importance of science.
- Connect students with community physicians from shared backgrounds and experiences.
