Committed to community service, Summa Health began offering hands-on medical exploratory outreach in 2015 with a small cohort of Akron Public Schools. Since then, Summa Health’s efforts have expanded to include more students from Akron Public Schools.

About the Summit

Summa Health recognizes that many patients across the United States, including Greater Akron, face health inequity. These inequities include a lack of access to care and thus suffering worse health outcomes from preventable and manageable conditions.

A well-studied strategy to reduce disparities is having a workforce that welcomes those from all backgrounds. The development of the Future Healthcare Leaders’ Summit aligns with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s (ACGME) efforts to motivate and engage the next generation of healthcare professionals.
