STI Clinic
The Summa Health STI Clinic offers same-day and next-day testing appointments for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Sexual Transmitted Infections
A sexually transmitted infection (STI) is a bacterial, viral, parasitic or fungal infection that can be passed on through sexual contact. Also known as a sexually transmitted disease (STD), it often has no symptoms meaning you may not know you are infected. However, the infection can still cause serious health problems for you and spread to others.
The Summa Health C.A.R.E. Center offers same-day and next-day testing appointments through the STI Clinic. The faster you treat the infection, the faster you’ll feel better.
Who Should Be Tested
- All sexually active people ages 13 to 64 should be tested for HIV at least once every year.
- All sexually active females younger than 25 years should be tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia every year.
- Everyone who is pregnant should be tested for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C starting early in pregnancy.
- Sexually active males who are gay or bisexual and males who have sex with males should be tested once a year or more. Speak with a healthcare provider to determine how often.
- Anyone who shares injection drug equipment should get tested for HIV at least once a year.
- People who have had oral or anal sex should talk with their healthcare provider about throat and rectal testing options.
When to Get Tested
It’s important to get tested as soon as possible if you’ve had unprotected sexual contact, you find out your partner has an STI, you think you’ve been exposed or you have any symptoms associated with STIs.
