Research at Summa Health

Research is an integral component of the academic and clinical environment of Summa Health Behavioral Health Institute. Through various research projects we continue to innovate behavioral health treatment in our community and maintain our standard for excellent care. The Summa Health Traumatic Stress Center is involved in research to advance the science regarding traumatic stress and well-being of those affected by trauma.

Projects include:
  • Developing tools to identify which traumatized individuals are at highest risk for developing persistent post-traumatic stress
  • Examining the role of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in physical health
  • Assessing the prevalence of trauma and PTSD in primary care and mental healthcare settings
  • Developing new treatments for women impacted by domestic violence
  • Evaluating treatment outcomes and the factors that influence outcomes
  • Examining the course of post-trauma symptom development in first responder occupations.

Summa Health’s Psychiatry department has partnered on collaborative research projects with Kent State University, the University of Akron and other academic and hospital partners across the country.
