Lung/Pulmonology Specialists
Pulmonologists are key members of the multidisciplinary team that treats cancer patients. These doctors may help with making the diagnosis and determining the stage of a patient’s cancer. They may help to determine whether or not a patient is a candidate for lung cancer surgery (will he or she have enough lung volume after surgery) and also work to maximize breathing capacity after surgery.
They often participate in care during treatment and can help manage the lung symptoms that arise both due to the cancer itself, and those that occur as side effects of one of the treatments.
They can perform tests and biopsies, and treat patients who have respiratory issues related to lung cancer.
