Electrophysiologists

Electrophysiologists treat heart arrhythmias and other heart rhythm disorders. These can include irregular heartbeats, such as when the heart beats too quickly (tachycardia) or too slowly  (bradycardia).

When your heart doesn’t beat normally, your physician may use electrophysiology studies (EPS) to find out why. During an EPS, an electrophysiologist will insert a thin tube called a catheter into a blood vessel that leads to your heart. A specialized electrode catheter designed for EP studies sends electrical signals to your heart and records its electrical activity. The test results can help you and your physician decide whether you need medicine, a pacemaker, an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), cardiac ablation or surgery.
